Center for Student Involvement student workers and peer mentors pose on campus at UC San DiegoUC San Diego's Center for Student Involvement offers employment opportunities to undergraduate students and graduate students. Recruitment and selection for these year long positions takes place on an annual basis.

Communication & Leadership Assistant

Communication & Leadership Assistants (PDF) provide general administrative and programmatic support to ensure the success of the various programs and services offered by CSI - Communication & Leadership. Student Assistants selected in Winter 2021, will receive training in Spring 2021, and will be employed for the 2021–2022 school year. Student Assistants:

  • Receive training on interpersonal communication, public speaking, and leadership
  • Assist staff members with assessment, marketing, and other administrative duties
  • Facilitate group icebreakers, activities, and discussions focused on areas of Communication & Leadership
  • Provide support with program preparation, set-up and delivery

Triton Community Leadership Institute (TCLI) Mentors

Mentors and Mentor Coordinators Staff (PDFs) provide guidance and support to incoming first-year students who are primarily first-generation college students, as they learn about social justice and leadership and navigate their first year at UC San Diego. Mentors and Mentor Coordinators will be selected late Winter 2021, will receive training in Spring 2021 and Summer Session 1, and will be expected to serve in their roles during the summer institute and throughout the 2021–2022 school year.

Mentors and Mentor Coordinators:

  • Receive advanced training on facilitation, leadership, and social justice
  • Facilitate group activities and discussions in relation to diversity and social justice during the summer virtual program, (July 27 – August 19, 2021; Tuesdays and Thursdays; 12:00-2:00 PM)
  • Facilitate ice breakers, team builders, and general activities to promote community and a sense of belonging on campus
  • Meet with participants individually and in small groups to provide support and resources throughout the year
  • Coordinate events and workshops to familiarize participants with information, resources, and opportunities

Dialogue Ambassadors

Dialogue Ambassadors (PDF) and Lead Dialogue Ambassadors(PDF) co-facilitate 5 on-campus dialogues each quarter as well as assist with campus community building dialogues through the National Conflict Resolution Center. Dialogue Ambassadors selected late winter quarter will be employed for the 2021–2022 academic year and will receive training throughout spring 2021.

Dialogue Ambassadors:

  • Receive advanced training on restorative practice and dialogue facilitation in collaboration with the National Conflict Resolution Center
  • Develop public speaking, conflict resolution, and networking skills
  • Co-facilitate dialogues to promote civil discourse, community building, and perspective talking
  • Participate in assessing and evaluating the program

Graduate Assistantship

Graduate students concentrating in student affairs administration, higher education, and related fields gain practical experience facilitating educational workshops and seminars.

Graduate assistants:

  • Develop public speaking and presentation skills
  • Facilitate seminars and workshops
  • Participate in assessment projects
  • Lead training classes and workshops for student organizations
