Triton Community Fund &
Triton Tournament Competition Fund
The Triton Community and Triton Tournament Competition Funds are generously supported by:
- The Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
- The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
- The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Life
Please note these funds are limited and not guaranteed. The Triton Community and Tournament Competition Fund Committee aims to fund as many individual student organizations as possible each year, even if the full requested amount cannot be met.
AS Funding is the primary source of funding for CSI registered student organizations. Triton Community and Triton Tournament Competition Funds should be applied for when AS Funding is not available or when an activity needs supplemental funding.
- Triton Community Fund Maximum*: 1 event per quarter, $500 maximum request per event
- Triton Competition Fund Maximum*: $1,300 per year
* Not guaranteed – dependent on funding available and number of requests received
Disclaimers
- The University of California, San Diego does not endorse events funded through the Triton Community Fund or the Tournament Competition Fund.
- Funding is based on your representation of the event.
- Applicants and/or the pertaining organization are responsible for event planning. UC San Diego is not a party to contracts for off-campus events.
- The organization does not represent the University of California, San Diego in an official capacity and is responsible for informing others that they are not agents of the University.
Online funding application system
- This online application system is used by student applicants and committee members as well as the system administrator.
- Your submitted application can be viewed by all users to this system, including other students.
- Only committee members and the system administrator have the ability to change or remove submitted applications from the system. If changes are needed to a submitted application, please email tcf@ucsd.edu for assistance.
Application requirements & guidelines
- Event must take place on the UC San Diego campus.
- Event must be open to all UC San Diego students.
- Applicants must be registered student organizations or recognized college organizations.
- The request must be submitted by a principal member of the organization.
- Funding proposals must be submitted at least 25 calendar days prior to the event.
- A Triton Activity Planner (TAP) is required for all CSI student organization events that are awarded Triton Community Fund (TCF) funds. Please start a TAP even if your TCF application has not yet been approved or denied.
- A complete and detailed description of the event must be included on the application.
- Price estimates must be included for all items an organization is requesting funding for (example: food, tech, supplies, performers/speakers). Estimates should display the exact price for each of the goods or services as well as the vendor’s information. Acceptable forms of price estimates include, but are not limited to:
- An email invoice or quote from vendor, speaker, or performer
- Formal itemized documentation or receipt from vendor (e.g., PDF)
- Photos of the menu with prices and selected items marked or circled in the image (using this option will not account for tax)
- Screenshots from a website -- for example, build an Amazon cart of all the supplies needed and screenshot that to show what the items cost
- Event expenses that are required to make the event happen (venue costs, equipment rental, AV/tech, speaker fees, supplies, etc.) will be prioritized over food.
- Funding for food will be allocated on a limited basis.
- Funding proposals must be complete and accurate. Applications that are inaccurate (wrong date, location, etc.) or lacking required information will be denied.
- Funding will not be awarded for events that charge a mandatory entrance or ticket fee.
- Maximum request amount is $500.00 per event, 1 event per quarter.
- AS Funding is the primary source of funding for CSI registered student organizations. Triton Community Funds should only be applied for when AS Funding is not available or when an activity needs supplemental funding.
- Triton Community Fund allocations and specific amounts are not guaranteed. The Triton Community Fund has a limited fund of money to allocate to student organizations each year and does its best to fund as many individual student organizations as possible, even if it’s not the full requested amount.
Applicant must:
- Be a CSI registered student organization or recognized college organization.
- Be a Principal Member of their student organization.
- Only apply when other funding is not available or when additional funding is needed to support their program.
- List other funding sources supporting their event.
All registered CSI student organizations must submit a TAP 21 or more days prior to the event. Please start the TAP even if your TCF application has not yet been approved or denied.
- Speaker and/or performer fees
- Event supplies (Post-It notes, pens, poster paper, etc.)
- Security guards and/or UC Police Department coverage
- Movie/film rights
- Promotional materials (maximum allocation of $50)
- Venue/space rentals fees (when a free venue is not available or suitable for an event)
- AV/tech fees
- Inflatables and photo booths
- Food (funding will be limited)
- Tables / chairs / linen rentals
- Decorations (one time use only; no permanent items such as costumes, graduation stoles, etc.)
* If an item/expense is not listed above, it will not be approved for funding.
Exclusions
The committee will not fund:
- Events or activities that are prohibited for student organizations
- Events, projects or activities in which there is personal financial gain for the student organization and/or its members
- Student publications including newspapers, journals, magazines or paid advertisements
- Items / expenses not listed under "Fundable expenses" above
- Fundraising activities for the student organization
Selection criteria
Events must align within one or more of UC San Diego's Student Affairs Strategic Goals and/or the University's Principles of Community.
Student Affairs Strategic Goals:

Award notifications
- Applicants will be notified via email with a decision regarding funding 17 days prior to their event date.
- Any unused award funds will be forfeited by the receiving student organization and retained by the Triton Community and Tournament Competition Fund.
Apply for the Triton Community Fund
Application requirements & guidelines
- Applicants must be registered student organizations or recognized college organizations.
- The request must be submitted by a principal member if a CSI student organization or an officer if a college-based student organization.
- The request must be submitted a minimum of 35 calendar days prior to the event.
- Applications must include an official tournament/competition application, including tournament description, or invitation detailing the date and cost of registration fees, or a screenshot of a website or email that includes this information.
- Only currently registered UCSD students who will be competing will qualify for funding.
- Tournament/competition must take place during the academic year
- Organizations must be qualified or invited to participate in a tournament/competition at the time of application. Funding cannot be awarded based on the possibility of qualifying to compete in a future tournament/competition.
- If approved, the administrative funding will be provided to cover the registration fees for intercollegiate competitions and half the costs of UCSD facilities rental, set-up, and audio-visual expenses for competition and events involving other institutions.
- Maximum request amount is $1,300.00 annually; maximum amount is not guaranteed.
- Triton Tournament Competition Funds can be used for registration fees and insurance for tournaments, competitions or similar activities that are being coordinated by associations, educational institutions, or other 3rd party organizations.
- Competitions and tournaments must occur in the contiguous United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. Funding will not be provided to student organizations attending tournaments and competitions occurring in any foreign nation, U.S. embassies and U.S. consulates in any foreign nation, and U.S. territories (including Puerto Rico and Northern Mariana Islands).
- Applications that are inaccurate (ex: wrong date, location, etc.) or lacking required information will be denied.
- The decision on the specific funding may be made by the AVC-Student Life and/or the Funding Committee.

- Rental of off-campus venues
- Gas
- Food
- Accommodations
- Purchases of other services or goods

If your student organization request is approved:
- All tournament / competition participants must sign a student or group waiver for each off-campus event.
- Event insurance is required for all funded tournament / competition off campus events. Certificate of insurance can be obtained through a national organization or the CampusConnexions. Please visit Registered Student Organization RSO Event Liability to complete the online form and click on Off-Campus Events. Apply for coverage to acquire the certificate of insurance.
- A principal member from the student organization must submit the following documents no later than two weeks prior to the travel to the fund manager in the Student Life Business Office (Price Center East, 3rd Level):
- Travel Request Form
- Student or Group Waiver
- Certificate of Insurance
- Reimbursement requests (all original receipts for approved items or expenses) must be submitted to the SLBO within 14 days of the tournament / competition.
