CSI Awards and Celebration

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) holds an annual awards ceremony to honor outstanding student organizations, individuals, and community advisors. 

Nomination applications for the 2023-2024 academic year will close at 11:59 pm on FRIDAY APRIL 12, 2024.

Award Winners will be announced on via the Center for Student Involvement's Instagram and be featured on our website!

Student Org of the Year

Award Description: This award is given to the CSI registered student organization that displays outstanding effort in all areas, in relation to its purpose, based on the following criteria:

  • Leadership of the organization in reaching its goals
  • Contributions to the University and /or outside community
  • Development of its members

Prize: $250 to your student organization account

Award Description: This award is given to a CSI student organization that registered after May 1, 2023, and that displays outstanding effort in all areas, based on the following three criteria:

  • Maintained a strong membership base
  • Made exceptional progress on accomplishing organization's goals
  • Hosted or sponsored campus-wide program and events 

Prize: $50 to your student organization account

Award Description: This award is given to teams of 2 or more CSI-registered student organizations for the most outstanding, jointly-sponsored program.

Community Advisor of the Year

Award Description: This award recognizes outstanding service and contributions to student organizations.

Criteria:
  • Must be the official Faculty/Staff/Community Advisor of a UCSD registered student organization, as noted on the online Student Organization Registration website between March 1, 2023 and March 1, 2024 (Note: CSI Advisors are not eligible)
  • Must be acting as a volunteer, and not within the scope of a paid position or receiving monetary compensation

Eligibility:

  • Current UC San Diego undergraduate OR graduate student
  • Earned or pending certificate of completion for any CSI-Communication and Leadership program during the 2023-24 academic year.

Criteria:

  • Individual has shown improvement of communication and leadership skills as a result of participating in CSI-Communication and Leadership program(s)
  • Individual articulates examples of how they utilize their leadership skills in everyday life
  • Individual articulates skills gained from a C&L program and how it influences their personal leadership style. Individual must give insight to what type of leader they are.

Communication & Leadership Outstanding Group Leader

Award Description: This award is open to students who have successfully completed at least one CSI-Communication and Leadership program during the 2023-24 academic year.

Eligibility:

  • Current UC San Diego undergraduate OR graduate student
  • Earned or pending certificate of completion for any CSI-Communication and Leadership program during the 2023-24 academic year.

Criteria:

  • Individual has shown improvement of communication and leadership skills as a result of participating in CSI-Communication and Leadership program(s)
  • Individual articulates examples of how they utilize their leadership skills in everyday life
  • Individual shows understanding of inclusivity in relation to being a group leader

Communication & Leadership Outstanding Community Leader

Award Description: This award is open to students who have successfully completed at least one CSI-Communication and Leadership program during the 2023-24 academic year.

Eligibility:

  • Current UC San Diego undergraduate OR graduate student
  • Earned or pending certificate of completion for any CSI-Communication and Leadership program during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Criteria:

  • Individual has shown improvement of communication and leadership skills as a result of participating in CSI-Communication and Leadership program(s)
  • Individual demonstrates awareness and understanding of what community is and the importance of building community
  • Individual articulates skills gained from a C&L program and how it influences how they go forth as a leader in the community

CSI Individual Changemaker of the Year

Purpose: To recognize a student involved in a CSI registered organization or program, who has emerged as a leader in creating change on a specific social justice issue. They are engaged not only with the issue, but the community impacted. This award values innovation, collaboration, leadership, and passion for changemaking. For this award students may self-nominate or be nominated by someone else.  For self-nominations, endorsement must be obtained by someone other than the nominee, who is familiar with the content of the nomination.

Eligibility: Community Advisors, community members, faculty, staff, and students may submit nominations. Students may nominate themselves or their peers.

Selection Criteria: This award is given to a student involved in a CSI registered organization or program, who demonstrates, with concrete examples, the following criteria:

  • Individual has worked to create positive change on an issue using an innovative approach.
  • Individual is committed to developing and empowering other changemakers among their peers and community partners
  • Individual has engaged with the impacted community to identify challenges and implement strategies to address those challenges.

Sustained Community Service Initiative of the Year

Purpose: To recognize CSI registered student organizations who have gone out of their way to develop a service project or initiative through sustained collaboration with community partners. This award values collaborative partnerships and approaches to addressing pressing social justice issues on a long term basis, i.e. through relationship building and over more than one or two service events. 

Eligibility: Community Advisors, community members, faculty, staff, and students may nominate student organizations that demonstrate the criteria identified below. Members may nominate their own organization, or their peers’ organization(s).

Selection Criteria: This award is given to a CSI registered student organization of UC San Diego, with concrete examples of the following criteria: 

  • Service initiative addresses a pressing social justice issue through long-term collaboration with impacted community to identify challenges, and strategies to address those challenges.
  • Based on collaborative approach, this organization provides participants with the opportunity to engage in education, training, and reflection around identified community issue(s).
  • Service is meaningful and impacts both participants and the community, creating lasting relationships/connections between campus and community. 

Prize: $200 to student organization account

Award Description: This award is given to a CSI-registered student organization for the most outstanding and effective virtual program aimed to support student engagement (social, fundraising, service, etc.)

Please submit any flyer and/or digital material used in nominated marketing plan to getinvolved@ucsd.edu with the Subject "CSI Award Nominations - Award Name"

NOTE: Additional collaborators of this outstanding marketing plan may be UC San Diego college/department organizations, individual students, or community members.
