César E. Chávez Week of Service and Learning
César E. Chávez Week of Service and Learning is a showcase of organizations supporting Latinx and underrepresented student groups, ways to take action to address the COVID-19 pandemic, and resources related to vaccine equity for Latinx populations and local farmworkers.
This Week of Service celebrates two of the core values of the United Farm Workers: Celebrating Community and Service to Others. Opportunities will be open on March 31st through the month of April.
100 Thank You’s to Health Workers
Be part of an effort to submit 100 thank yours to health workers. Take a moment to record a video or write a message in English or Spanish to our Healthcare Heroes at UCSD. Please use the button to submit on this mobile friendly form! (must be logged into UCSD account) We will stitch together videos for a complete thank you video from the UCSD community. Videos can be 5-10 seconds in length and submitted via phone to the form.

The Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is a society of scientists dedicated to fostering the success of Hispanic/Chicanos and Native American scientists—from college students to professionals—to attain advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in science.

Speaker 1: (Marlenne) Hola, nosotros somos El capítulo de SACNAS en UCSD! SACNAS, que por su siglas en inglés representa: Sociedad para el Avance de Chicanos/Hispanos y Nativos Americanos en la Ciencia. Somos ina organización registrada en UCSD compuesta de estudiantes de licenciatura y posgrado que se enfoca a incrementar y apoyar la diversidad en STEM a través del desarrollo profesional de nuestros miembros y el alcance a nuestras comunidades.
Speaker 2: (Jessica) En SACNAS entendemos que la comunidad es importante, y que no podríamos prosperar sin nuestras comunidades.
Speaker 3: (Pamela) Como ya has de saber, el nuevo virus COVID-19 ha tenido un devastante impacto en nuestras amistades y en nuestro día-a-día.
Speaker 4: (Edahí) En efecto, personas negras e hispanas/Latinas son más vulnerables al efecto del virus COVID-19 si se infectan, debido a un menor acceso a la atención médica o una mayor prevalencia de comorbilidades como hipertensión, obesidad, diabetes y enfermedades pulmonares que, a su vez, reflejan desigualdades raciales más amplias.
Speaker 5: (Analine) Construir, apoyar y ayudar a nuestras comunidades ha sido particularmente necesario durante estos tiempos difíciles.
Speaker 6: (Daniel) Y continuamos fortaleciendo nuestras relaciones a través de la divulgación, compartiendo información importante con respecto a la vacuna, oportunidades de avance, conectando a personas y brindando apoyo a todos los miembros de la comunidad que lo necesitan para prosperar durante esta pandemia.
Speaker 7: (Andrés) Afortunadamente, con el reciente desarrollo científico de la vacuna contra el coronavirus, hemos comenzado a recuperarnos como un todo. Sin embargo, no podemos detenernos hasta que todas las personas elegibles y dispuestas se vacunen en los horarios designados.
Speaker 8: (Dora) Entendemos que hay resistencia en algunas comunidades a vacunarse y, para ayudar a la mayor cantidad de personas posibles, alentamos a las personas capaces a vacunarse para protegerse no solo a sí mismas, sino también a quienes les rodean, pues necesitamos cuidar a otros miembros de nuestra comunidad.
Speaker 9: (Alan) Teniendo en cuenta los valores de Cesar E. Chávez, de cuidar diligentemente a nuestra comunidad y brindar visibilidad a los grupos vulnerables y subrepresentados, los alentamos a que participen activamente, se vacunen y protejan a sus comunidades.

Research Studies
The COVID-19 Farmworker Study (COFS) will provide critical missing information on farmworkers’ abilities to protect themselves and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study brings together a collective of community-based organizations, researchers and advocates to reveal information that can only be gathered directly from farmworkers who have been working during the COVID-19 pandemic.
