The Center for Student Involvement is pleased to offer students exciting community service opportunities during spring break as part of a campus-wide initiative to encourage UC San Diego students to stay safe and reduce the spread of the COVID virus.
Campus health officials have found that students who go home during campus breaks are at a higher risk of contracting COVID and spreading the virus to others. For this reason, CSI has identified a variety of service projects, some with an in-person component and other projects that can be completed virtually by students living both on and off-campus. This allows students who choose to stay on-campus the chance to participate in safe and responsible service opportunities while helping communities in need.
Volunteers will create paintings to beautify the living spaces of people who have moved from homelessness to permanent housing. This project will be led in the style of a virtual âpaint nightâ where an artist guides you in painting an image. The painting instructions will be recorded so you can follow along on your own schedule. Virtual Opportunity Times available Monday, March 22 & Tuesday, March 23
Want to help families build healthy reading habits by engineering fun and engaging activities for families to explore stories together at home? You can support families in our community by taking home a crafting bundle to prepare supplies for specific projects! No crafting or artistic experience required - instructions are provided for each kit. On-campus pick up and drop-off Times available Monday, March 22 & Tuesday, March 23

Trash is one of the most widespread pollution problems threatening our oceans and waterways worldwide â yet it is entirely preventable. Trash is more than just an eyesore. It is a threat to wildlife and ecosystems, while potentially threatening our food supply and human health. When we trash our oceans, we trash our life support system. YOU can help by participating in the UC San Diego Spring Break Beach Cleanup! On-campus pick up and drop-off Times available Monday, March 22 & Tuesday, March 23
The Office for Students with Disabilities invites you to collaborate on a pilot project to assist us in correcting auto generated captioning for course lectures, staff training, and other campus events. Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing rely on captioning to learn and understand information that is presented verbally. Learners for whom English may not be their primary language or who are primarily visual learners will benefit from access to captioning as well. Virtual Opportunity Times available Monday, March 22 - Friday, March 26
Help create Home and Hygiene Kits for Lemon Grove families in need! Volunteers will pick up bulk kit supplies on campus at the time, date, and location noted below. Each volunteer is responsible for creating 10 family-size kits. Volunteers return to their room to assemble the kits and write a small note of encouragement for each family who will receive the kits. On-campus pick up and drop-off Times available Monday, March 22 & Tuesday, March 23
Following an orientation on anti-racist pedagogy, UC San Diego undergrads write personalized letters to students in grades 3-5. Teachers will have their students brainstorm questions they might have for a college student and they will be distributed among volunteers along with a sample template and guidelines. Undergrads will have the opportunity to write letters to individual students, answer their questions, share stories, and decorate their letter. Letters will be collected at the end of the week and shared digitally with Baker students following their spring break. Virtual Opportunity Times available Monday, March 22 - Friday, March 26
Join the American Red Cross to educate the community about home fire safety and save lives. On average, seven people die every day from a home fire. Fire experts agree that you may have as little as two minutes to escape a burning home before it’s too late to get out. Every eight minutes, the Red Cross responds to a disaster – and the vast majority of these are home fires. Virtual Opportunity Times available Monday, March 22 - Thursday, March 25
